BB holds annual display

FAUGHANVALE recently held their annual display and prize giving in the church hall.

Chief guests for the evening were Robert Wilson, headmaster of Limavady Grammar School and his wife who presented the awards and prizes. After the opening service a varied programme of Anchor Boy, Junior Section and Company section activities took place and ended with a finale based on a powerpoint presentation of the Lord's Prayer prepared by the Company Section boys.

Robert Wilson then addressed the boys, complimenting them on their turn out and varied programme leaving them with an encouragement to continue on with their BB careers by setting goals and achieving them.

Our numbers again this year have been good with 23 boys regularly attending.

Each Friday the boys played games, listened to a Bible Story, coloured in a picture or did some form of craft to the story and answered questions.

Matthew Cooke, Robbie Millar, Ross Mc Laughlin and Kieran Sagau were on the team that took part in the Battalion RE quiz on a Saturday in November. They did very well coming runners up and receiving a silver medal on the day for this. Thanks to the boys for giving up their Saturday morning and to their parents for helping them learn the stories.

In January the boys who wished took part in the Anchor Boys Colouring competition which was to colour an Armagh apple picture during a BB night. Two entries were chosen to go to Battalion level and these were Matthew Campbell P1/P2 Age Group and Robbie Millar P3/P4 age group. For this the boys share the Montgomery cup.

At the final in Lurgan they came 2nd out of 9 teams however NI district only present plaques to 1st place so in recognition of their achievement the company presented them with a plaque. Thanks were given to parents Kenny Hargan and Kieran Kyte who drove us there.

Sam Gibson was Best Boy for P1/P2 boys. Matthew Cooke and Robbie Millar shared the cup for P3. Lewis Baldrick and Mark Spencer shared the cup for P4.

The Officers were helped for their help over the year and thanks also went to the parents who helped out on occasions and to all the parents for sending their boys each Friday night. Adam Blair, Dale Archibald, Peter Mc Whiter and Lynne Montgomery helped out as part of their service for Duke of Edinburgh awards they are working towards through their schools and their assistance was greatly appreciated.

Anchor Boys are now closed until September when we look forward to welcoming new members.
