'˜Bizarre behaviour' as man stops lorry on motorway near Dungannon in order to confront driver

Appearing to be sentenced for dangerous driving on the A4 dual carriageway and onslip of Junction 15 of the M1 motorway at Dungannon on July 14th 2015 was Neal Anderson Pauley, 38, from Corbally Road in Dromara.

Handing down a £300 fine and 18 month driving disqualification, District Judge John Meehan commented, “If you had not contested the charge you might’ve been dealt with by a £150 fine. But you have forfeited all credit.

“This was bizarre behaviour on the motorway.

“In the pre-sentence report he accepts that he overtook the lorry and came to a halt in front of it in order to confront the driver.

“The lorry was going at 50mph and was full laden... and he had at least one child in the car.

“The lorry driver said that it was a very close thing that he didn’t plough straight into the car.

“This was reckless behaviour nevermind that the lorry driver and child were put at risk.”

A solicitor for the defendant claimed that the actions of his client, a football coach, were a “loss of judgement”.

He then asked for bail to appeal the sentence which Judge Meehan fixed at £400.

However, he refused the defendant leave to drive pending appeal.

An offender’s levy of £15 was also imposed.
