Black ice warning across North West

The Chief Forecaster at the Met Office said: “Showers will affect much of Northern Ireland on Monday evening, these turning wintry on high ground.

“Overnight, showers will become more isolated, and as skies clear, road and pavement temperatures will fall below freezing, and with surfaces wet, icy stretches are expected to form on untreated surfaces.

“In addition any remaining showers, mainly in the north, could fall onto frozen surfaces, and leave up to 1 cm of snow on high ground above 200 to 300m.

Met Éireann concurs, saying Monday evening will be cold with clear spells and a few showers on North Western coasts.

Frost will also develop widely inland as temperatures dip to between 0 and -2 degrees in light winds with some fog forming in inland area.

Tuesday is set to be a largely dry and sunny day with rain or hail showers possible in the North West.

Icy stretches are expected to form on many untreated roads and pavements on Monday night, lasting into Tuesday morning.

In addition, slight snowfalls are possible on some higher routes, chiefly above 200 to 300 m.
