Blame it on Fidel concludes programme

BLAME it on Fidel - billed a humourous and politically sophisticated feature - concludes the current programme of the Magic Lantern Film Society tomorrow.

The film is the directorial debut from Julie Gavras (daughter of famed Greek director Costa) and is based on a novel by Italian Domitilla Calami.

It revolves around nine-year-old girl Anna de la Mesa as she weathers big changes in her household as her parents become radical political activists in 1970-71 Paris.

Anna attempts to make sense of her once-stable world as everything she thought she ever knew is turned upside down.

Blame it on Fidel is a charming comedy of manners, class, and politics. This thought provoking but hugely entertaining film was nominated for a Grand Jury Award at the Sundance Film Festival in 2007.

This will be the last screening on the current program. You can now find a list of the next series of films being screened by Magic Lantern in the current program of the Nerve Centre. The Magic Lantern's season will last until June, with a new program of their own being produced soon.

The screening will commence at 7pm at the Nerve Centre on Magazine Street this Thursday, February 25.
