Castledawson motorcyclist Nico Mawhinney has been taken to hospital after crashing at the North West 200 on Thursday.

The local rider came off his bike at the Mill Road roundabout and was transported to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast.

His injuries are described as not life-threatening.

Meanhwile, Dungannon’s Ryan Farquhar remains seriously ill in hospital after he was involved in a high-speed crash during the North West 200.

The popular local motorcyclist had recently returned to racing, after quitting the sport for several years after the death of his uncle Trevor Ferguson in the island of Man.

The Belfast Health Trust said Farquhar was seriously ill after suffering chest and pelvic injuries.

The other competitior involved in the crash Dan Cooper is in a stable condition in the Causeway Hospital, Coleraine, after suffering shoulder injuries.

Farquhar, 40, was airlifted by police helicopter from the track after the accident and was taken to the Royal Victoria Hospital.
