City of Culture chair returns to city

PHIL Redmond, the Chair of the Independent Assessment Panel for UK City of Culture 2013 is making a welcome return visit to the city this week.

During his visit he will attend a number of events and meetings as well as being the keynote speaker at the annual Londonderry Chamber of Commerce dinner on Friday night.

Phil Redmond will examine the role of culture in transforming communities when he attends an Open Discussion event at the newly opened St Cecilia's College on Friday afternoon between 2.30 and 4.00pm.

The event, which is open to the public, provides a unique opportunity to discuss the benefits of the UK City of Culture title for the city.

Oonagh McGillion, temporary director of Development Department, Derry City Council, said she was delighted the award winning television producer and screenwriter was returning to the city.

"Phil Redmond has been very supportive of us since we won the UK City of Culture title.

"He has offered us a lot of advice and assistance as we prepare for 2013 and we are delighted that he is returning to the city to attend a number of engagements later this week," she said.
