Conleth shares his excitement about his London concert and discusses his links to a very special lady who inspired his venture into showbiz.

The Lurgan-born actor has already sold out his upcoming show, ‘Conleth Kane In Concert’, and is extremely excited to step on stage in the capital city.

“‘Conleth Kane In Concert’ sold out in just eight days,” Conleth shared. “Even with extra seats added! The concert takes place at the Above the Stag theatre in London on August 14th.”

The Above the Stag theatre is an award-winning fringe theatre and his upcoming concert will see him conquer yet another dazzling stage. Since relocating to London twelve years ago, Conleth has taken the city by storm, appearing in a series of plays and dramas - both on screen and in the theatre.

Conleth’s success has not been restricted to the capital city, either, as he has dabbled in pantomime in Birmingham and Belfast. He made his West End debut in 2013, playing Jake in ‘Molly Wobbly’s T*t Factory’, which received great praise from audiences in Hackney.

“The best thing about the upcoming concert is that lots of ‘Molly Wobbly’ fans have booked - and people that have seen me in other shows,” explained the thirty one year old. “A lot of my friends were unable to get tickets - I had no idea it would sell as fast as it did. My one-man Christmas show, ‘All I Want For Christmas’, which took place last December at The Black Box venue in Belfast, was one of the best nights of my life.”

While it is clear that Conleth has settled very well into the London way of life, he continues to revisit Northern Ireland - and happily seizes any opportunity to perform on home turf, too.

“I’m seriously considering doing something in Lurgan this Christmas,” said Conleth. “I will be at home appearing in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in Belfast’s Grand Opera House - alongside May McFettridge. It would be lovely to perform for the home crowd whilst at home.”

Conleth recently became a source of inspiration to many young people in Northern Ireland and across the UK when he spoke out about the marriage referendum in the south of Ireland. After posting a message on social media about his pride in being gay, Conleth received thousands of messages of support - but he isn’t without his own heroes.

“Cilla Black was a huge inspiration to me,” Conleth shared, just days after the well-loved icon passed away in Spain.

“I remember being very young and fascinated by her. My mum is called Cilla and I’d never heard of, nor met, another Cilla before so I was an instant fan. My family used to watch me watching her.

“I even remember speaking about her in primary school when all my other peers were into much cooler people! ‘Blind Date’ and ‘Surprise Surprise’ were really the first forms of ‘reality TV’, and I think she was a legend.

“Whilst appearing in ‘Aladdin’ at the Liverpool Empire back in 2010, alongside Pamela Anderson and Les Dennis, my parents’ flight to Liverpool was cancelled. I was pretty devastated as it was my first Christmas ever away from home. Pete Price, a Liverpool Radio DJ, was also appearing in the show and he knew of my love for Cilla Black, as he was one of her best friends and we had chatted about her lots in rehearsals.

“On the night that my folks were meant to be watching, Pete walked into my dressing room, handed me his phone and said, “Someone wants to speak to you.” It was Cilla Black! We chatted for a good fifteen minutes and it was the best Christmas present I have ever received. I will never forget that call.”
