Cookstown firm McAleer and Rushe to build £24million offices for Belfast City Council

Belfast City Council is to develop a new 100,000 sq ft office building in a £24.7m deal agreed with construction firm McAleer & Rushe.

The council has agreed to purchase the Clarendon House site on Adelaide Street for a scheme, designed by Todd Architects, and which received planning permission at Tuesday night’s meeting of the council’s Planning Committee.

Hailed as one of the most significant office developments in the city for 10 years. the project is expected to provide a major boost to the construction sector, support several hundred jobs during the life of the project.

“We are delighted to be working on this development in partnership with McAleer & Rushe,” said strategic policy and resources committee chairman Declan Boyle.

Stephen Surphlis, property director at McAleer & Rushe, said: “This deal comes at a time of rising demand for grade A office stock within the Belfast and hopefully will act as a catalyst for other office projects in the city.”
