Council's poppy bid is turned down

An application by Mid and East Antrim Borough Council to host part of the Tower of London poppies sculpture has been turned down.

Earlier this year, the council expressed an interest in hosting the ‘Weeping Window’ artwork at Carrick Castle.

It is part of the larger scale ‘Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red’ installation, a collection of over 888,000 ceramic poppies which went on display in London during autumn 2014.

In a letter to the council, organisers said there was “a particularly strong range of proposals from Northern Ireland”; however, Carrickfergus was not chosen as a location.
