Court: Youths ‘attacked in cinema foyer’ by Maghera men
Two young Maghera men who attacked a group of youths in the foyer of the local cinema, were each given three-month suspended jail sentences when they appeared at Magherafelt Magistrates Court.
Ruairi Norton (22), of Sunnyside Park, and Bernard O’Donnell (24), Meetinghouse Avenue, each admitted a charge of disorderly behaviour at The Movie House on December 13, 2013.
A PPS lawyer said the defendants, along with another man, had earlier asked the youths for a fight. She said the youths said they did not want to fight and walked into the foyer of the cinema where they were attacked in front of patrons and members of staff, who called the police.
A defence lawyer said the other man had been assaulted by the youths and defendants had allowed themselves to be “washed along”.
