Maghaberry woman given a probation order for threatening her husband
A Maghaberry woman has been put on probation for two years after being charged with a domestic abuse offence.
Lisburn Magistrates Court heard that between March 2025 and February 2026 she was controlling her husband of 10 years by making threats that if he didn’t do what she wanted she would report him to the police to try to get him arrested or would tell neighbours that he was a dangerous rapist.
It was alleged that the threats, which included threats to harm their pets, were made both orally and via text message.
Defence told the court the injured party had attended the court to support the defendant, Nicola Louise Scanlin (31), whose address was given as Arindale in Maghaberry.

During sentencing, Deputy District Judge Brian Archer told the defendant: “A lot of men in your husband’s position wouldn’t be here in support of you today.
"You have been charged with offences over two years but I have no doubt it has lasted longer than that.
"You obviously have had a serious alcohol issue in your past but you have been sober for two months and you will need help.”
Mr Archer imposed a probation order for two years.
He warned the defendant: “If you don’t comply with the order you will be back in court and I have no doubt you will be sent to prison.
"Your future is very much in your hands.
"These are serious charges and I could easily impose a custodial sentence given your conduct.”
