Mark Branagan, of Muskett Road, Carryduff, Belfast, was charged with a number of offences.

He is accused of causing the death of Pauline Downing by careless driving on October 23 this year.

He is also facing further charges of no driving licence, no insurance and driving unaccompanied while an L driver on the same date.

Mrs Pauline Downing, a mother-of-two from Lurgan, was struck by an Audi Q3 just at around 2.50pm on Friday afternoon on the Lurgan Road, Aghagallon. Mrs Downing passed away at the scene.

At Lisburn Magistrates Court, a PSNI officer said he could connect the defendant to the charges.

A defence lawyer for the defendant confirmed there was no application for bail.

District Judge Rosie Watters remanded Branagan in custody, and adjourned the case to 30 October.
