The 34-year-old, who was wearing a grey tracksuit, appeared in custody in the dock at Lisburn Magistrates Court on Monday.
Edward Cowley, whose address was listed as Scarva Walk in Banbridge is charged with attempting to murder a man in Lurgan on Sunday, September 9.
A PSNI officer told the court she was aware of the facts of the case and that she could connect the defendant to the charge.
A prosecutor asked if the officer could provide an outline of the facts and any objections to bail. This did not occur as Cowley was not applying for bail.
Cowley’s solicitor, Mr Philip Reid, said there were no questions regarding the connections. He added that his client was not applying for bail so it will be a simple remand.
Deputy District Judge Philip Mateer KC remaned the defendant in custody to appear before Craigavon Magistrates Court on September 25 this year.
In a statement issued on Sunday evening, police said they had received a report at around 2.25pm that day concerning a man aged in his 40s who had sustained stab wounds to his back at a property in the Grattan Street area of Lurgan.
“Officers attended, alongside colleagues from our Armed Response Unit (ARU),” said a police spokesperson.
The victim was taken to hospital where his condition on Sunday was described as serious.
