Antrim court judge tells motorist who did speed of 72mph in a 40: 'If you hit anyone at that speed you would kill them'

A judge told a motorist caught doing 72mph in a 40 area: "You were doing a motorway speed in a 40mph zone. If you hit anyone at that speed you would kill them."

District Judge Nigel Broderick was speaking to the 38-year-old man who was detected at Sevenmilestraight at Loanends at 5.30pm on January 28, 2025.

The defendant, Michael Toy, of Ainsworth Avenue in Belfast, told the court he has been watching his speed "really carefully" since the detection.

Banning the defendant from driving for a month along with a £150 fine, the judge added: "Our roads are dangerous enough without these speeds."
