Illegal fireworks recovered in Carrickfergus

The items were recovered by PSNI neighbourhood team officers in the Co Antrim town on Friday.

Following the haul, PSNI Mid and East Antrim issued the following advice: “We don’t want to stop anyone having fun, enjoying fireworks displays, but there are regulations in place for a good reason. Please stay safe this year!

“Misuse of fireworks can cause massive injuries, not to mention the pets that are terrorised by unplanned loud bangs!

“Celebrating Halloween will be very different this year but our advice on fireworks remains the same, and the law is clear – it is illegal to possess, sell, handle or use fireworks if you do not have a licence.

“Unfortunately at this time of year criminal gangs make money by selling dangerous fireworks - they don’t care about safety.

“If you know about the supply of illegal fireworks please let us know on 101, or call crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111

“Don’t be tempted to support these gangs. Fireworks should only be bought from a licensed retailed and their certificate of registration should be displayed at the point of sale.”
