Local politicians and members of the community have become increasingly concerned about the number of e scooters being driven on roads across the city, with many being concerned for the safety of both riders and pedestrians.
Now officers in Lisburn and Castlereagh have seized a number of the scooters, stating that they were on the road illegally and would now be destroyed.
Posting on social media, a spokesperson for Lisburn and Castlereagh Neighbourhood Police, said: “Officers from Lisburn City and rural Neighbourhood teams, supported by our probationary support officers were out tackling illegal use of e-scooters and ebikes.

"Over the course of two hours we stopped 12 persons riding escooters alone.
"Scooters were seized and a number of reports to the Public Prosecution service will follow.
"The scooters seized will be sent to be destroyed.”
The police also issued a reminder that “e-scooters, scramblers, go-peds, buzz boards, quads and mini-motos do not generally comply with construction and use legislation and vehicle standards so are therefore, restricted to off- road use only”.
Anyone using e-scooters has been reminded that if they are used on the road they must have a driving licence and insurance, that the vehicle must be registered with the DVLNI and display a number plate.
The vehicles must also have “obligatory lamps, reflectors and rear markings fitted”.
The spokesperson for the local police added: “We will continue to carry out proactive operations such as this when possible.”
