Man in court on charge of assaulting police officer: Jailed for seven months

Conor Christopher Lishman (27), originally from Londonderry but now at Kylemore Road, Coleraine, pleaded guilty to two assaults on police on June 16, last year.

Londonderry Crown Court heard that police were called to an address in Rosemount after reports of a disturbance inside.

When they arrived, officers could not get in as the door was blocked by two men struggling inside. Lishman was eventually removed from the property and struck out hitting one officer on the arm. He continued to struggle while being placed in the police vehicle and hit this officer on the chest with his head. He also bit an officer on the right forearm but did not break the skin. Neither officer sustained an injury.

The court was told the defendant had three previous convictions for assaulting police.

During police interview, Lishman claimed he was not struggling with the officers, it was just that the handcuffs were too tight.

Jailing Lishman for seven months, Judge Philip Babington said the court took assaults on police very seriously.
