Police spotted Ballymoney man urinating at side of one of Northern Ireland's busiest roads

Police spotted a man urinating at the side of one of Northern Ireland's busiest roads.

He was "to the rear of" a Skoda which had "parked at a bus stop close to a junction" on the Lisnevenagh Road dual-carriageway between Antrim town and Ballymena at 4.25 on Thursday January 29 this year.

David Murphy (59), of Garryduff Road, Ballymoney, had originally been accused of 'indecent behaviour in a public place' but at Antrim Magistrates Court, sitting in Ballymena on Tuesday, a prosecutor said the charge was being withdrawn.

A charge of possessing cannabis in relation to the incident remained and a guilty plea was entered to possession of a Class B drug.

When police had spoken to the defendant they detected a smell of cannabis and he then handed over a grinder containing three grammes of herbal cannabis.

District Judge Nigel Broderick said the defendant had an "atrocious record but surprisingly nothing since 2022". The defendant was fined £100 for the cannabis offence
