Cross border police watchdogs can ensure safer North West by working together

The Sinn Féin Councillor made the comments after the Derry and Strabane Policing and Community Safety Partnership (PCSP) met with the Donegal Joint Policing Committee (JPC) in County House, Lifford.

“The meeting with our colleagues on the Donegal Joint Policing Committee was extremely informative and proved to be a very positive engagement.

“Although there are structural differences between the two policing bodies there is obviously potential for closer working and delivery of partnership initiatives.”

Mr McGinley said the police organisations north and south already work closely together and stated that it was only right the local policing watchdogs should do likewise.

“The PSNI and An Garda Síochána meet regularly on policing issues and it would be beneficial for the PCSP and JPC to communicate on community safety issues that impact on all our residents,” said the local Sinn Féin Councillor following the meeting.

Mr McGinley said the group will continue to collaborate with all stakeholders in order to ensure a safer North West.

“The Derry and Strabane PCSP remains committed to working with all our partners to build safer, shared and confident communities,” he said.

The Londonderry and Donegal policing wathcdogs met in Lifford in order to discuss “synergies and potential for partnership working.”

At the meeting updates were provided by both the PCSP and the JPC and members identified a number of issues where a cross-border partnership approach could be beneficial.
