Diageo staff praised for Millennium Park clean-up

THE chairman of Bushmills Forum has warmly thanked employees of drinks company, Diageo, for their contribution to a village clean-up last Wednesday.

Mr. Bob Hedley, accompanied by fellow committee member, Councillor Sharon McKillop, helped the Diageo sixteen-strong Diageo workforce, focus their attentions on the Millenium Park which will greatly assist preparations for the forthcoming Salmon and Whiskey festival on September 22.

Mr. Hedley explained that he received a call from a Diageo representative suggesting that if the Forum could identify a community project, employees of the company mainly from Dublin and involved in Human Resources, would be prepared to travel to Bushmills to carry it out.

“This was a voluntary undertaking and we immediately agreed,” Mr. Hedley said.

“I spoke to Moyle Council who agreed to provide a lorry and the tools for the mob. We concentrated on the Millennium Park because we felt it appropriate since the Salmon and Whiskey festival was coming up and we want the place looking tidy,” he added.

Workers began their task at 8.30 a.m. and several hours later were enjoying a well-earned cuppa in the Bushmills Community Centre. Mr. Hedley said the Forum greatly appreciated the work of Diageo members. Councillor McKillop also congratulated the Diageo staf.

“This was a kind gesture and one that the community appreciates,” she added.
