Portadown: Approval for 'significantly enhanced' hurling club facilities with bus shelter and new access
St. Malachy’s Hurling Club, 2 Moy Road, Portadown, have been granted planning permission for an extension to their existing site, along with the provision of a bus shelter, and the construction of a new access off the Moy Road.
Also approved are car-parking facilities with a bus drop-off and turning area, and a pedestrian crossing point and associated works.
The planning application was lodged by McCreanor Company Architects, Craigavon, on behalf of Armagh GAA.
A Transport Assessment Form, submitted by SW Consultancy (NI) Ltd along with the planning application, states: “St. Malachy’s Hurling Club facilities will be significantly enhanced as part of the approved redevelopment of the site and will be a centre of excellence for both club and county squads, including County Armagh Gaelic football and hurling.

“There are 40 club teams in the county of Armagh. Once operational, on a training evening (6pm-10pm) the facility will be widely used, particularly during spring and summer months.
“A new direct access is proposed to the west with the current approved access to the club permanently closed and gated. A new access provides an opportunity to regularise and reorganise formal parking and add a further 60 spaces to the northwest of the site.
“The reconfigured access position to the west of the current shared access on Moy Road will provide dedicated access and enable appropriate formalised parking to be located closest to the buildings, facilitating bus drop-off and bus pick-up.

“An additional 60 car-parking spaces will be located close to the buildings and pitches where patrons will want to park. This will reduce internal and circulating trips.”
