The PSNI has issued an updated appeal for information into the whereabouts of missing person Matthew Thompson.

Matthew (34) travelled to Belfast from England and was last seen around midday on Thursday (October 8) in Grand Central Station.

In a statement on Friday(November 6), the PSNI added: “We believe he has boarded the Translink NIR service to Portadown. Police would like to directly appeal to any person that may have been on the 12.34hrs Grand Central Station to Portadown train service and can recall seeing Matthew, or where he may have got off at.

“Matthew is described as 6ft tall, medium build, dirty fair hair. Matthew was last seen wearing a black sweater with leather padding on the shoulders and elbows, with what appears to be German tricolour flag patches stitched on each arm, black/dark brown jean-style trousers cuffed to above the ankle, and black/dark plimsoll type shoes.

"He had a backpack with black straps and black shoulder padding, and was carrying a thick grey coat on entering the train. He may also have been wearing a black snood around his neck which he may have pulled up over his face on entering the train in order to conceal his identity.

“Matthew has been described as a ‘wanderer’ by his family, and police believe that he may have travelled onward into the Republic of Ireland, potentially to Dublin.”

If you have any information that could help locate Matthew, contact 101 and quote PSNI reference number 1442 of the 24th October 2026.
