Discover felting during August craft month

If you’ve ever fancied creating your own wall hanging or bag using wool fibres, then now’s your chance with a free Felting workshop being held on Monday 19th August from 1pm to 4pm.

A limited amount of spaces are available for a felting workshop under the expert guidance of textile artist Suzanne Wood, as part of ‘You Make My Monday’ creative sessions.

Speaking ahead of the workshop, Suzanne said the invitation is open to anyone to try their hand discovering the basics behind creating their own wall hanging.

“I will be working with each individual in a number of different techniques, wet-felting and using a range of wool fibres, wool pre-felt and interesting designs and textures to design basics to create your own personalised design. Come and discover the fun of felting and you will leave with either a functional bag or unique wall hanging. As spaces are limited I would encourage you to book you space now.”

The ‘You make my Monday’ workshops have been running throughout the month of August and have focused on a number of popular crafts. Run by Derry City Council in conjunction with Craft NI, this year’s theme ‘Culture of Making’ focuses on the work of crafts people specifically in N. Ireland.

Project Officer with Derry City Council Elaine Griffin said the workshops have been a great success so far. “The participation in these workshops so far has been really encouraging, this is a fun and free way to either try your hand at a new craft or pick up some tips on improving your technique. All the classes are facilitated by artists and a range of exhibitions and a masterclass to help local crafters promote their business within Northern Ireland and beyond.”

Spaces for the Felting Class are limited therefore advance registration is essential.
