Doggie sports day to raise money for little pup in need of lifesaving heart surgery

The rescue group Cavaliers in Need are holding a fun sports day at Beechgrove Doggy Fun Park in Banbridge on Saturday, July 4, from 12pm-4pm. There will be dog shows, competitions for the two and four-legged, great stalls, a raffle, sideshow games, professional pet photographers and lots more. All dog breeds are welcome.

All proceeds from the day will go towards heart surgery for Fred, a gorgeous one year old Bichon Frise who is in the care of Cavaliers in Need. Fred has been diagnosed with the life-limiting condition PDA - in PDA, some of the blood which is leaving the left side of the heart is channelled back into the lungs. Because of this, Fred’s heart must work harder to make sure enough blood is getting to the rest of his body. If left untreated, premature death is likely - in Fred’s case surgery is required as soon as possible as there are changes in his heart already.

Fred currently lives with his foster mum who said: “He’s a great wee boy who loves cuddles and snuggles. He eats well but doesn’t put any weight on. He plays and mucks as any other one year old dog and is a cheeky rascal.”
