Domestic violence carried out in place where people should feel safest - Mid Ulster council chairperson

“The impact can be devastating on entire families and the work that Women’s Aid do quite literally offers a lifeline in the form of practical help and emotional support,” she told members of Mid Ulster Women’s Aid during a recent visit.

Cllr Dillon is very supportive of all the work done by the organisation across the Mid Ulster Council area and they were delighted to welcome her to their Cookstown base.

She has pledged her support to the launch of a DVD called “The Good, The Bad & The Ugly”.

The DVD is for use in post primary schools and Mid-Ulster Women’s Aid hoped to launch it shortly.

Cllr Dillon also expressed her full support for the Supporting People Campaign and said: “Domestic Violence is a terrible crime carried out in the place where people should feel safest – their home.

“The impact can be devastating on entire families and the work that Women’s Aid do quite literally offers a lifeline in the form of practical help and emotional support.

“Those who are victims of domestic violence can be among the most vulnerable in our communities and maintaining services for them and others is vital” 

While with Mid-Ulster Women’s Aid, Cllr Dillon took the opportunity to present three volunteers with awards for their service to the organisation.

The group has been in existence for 21 years and was formerly known as Cookstown and Dungannon Women’s Aid. It offers refuge accommodation and other support for women, young people and children who are victims of domestic violence.
