Draperstown and Knockloughrim men in court over benefit fraud

Two men were convicted at Magherafelt Magistrates' Court on Monday for claiming benefits they were not entitled to.

Patrick McKenna (65) of Tullybrick Road, Draperstown claimed Pension Credit totalling £6,372 while failing to declare employment. He was fined £300 and ordered to pay an offenders levy of £15.

Mr McKenna has repaid in full the money wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.

Samuel Stewart (60) of Rock Villas, Knockloughrim claimed Income Support and Rates Relief totalling £3,786 while failing to declare an occupational pension. He was given a two month prison sentence suspended for two years. He is also required to repay any outstanding money to the Social Security Agency.
