Drawing inspiration from history

VISITORS to Londonderry's award winning Tower Museum this Saturday, May 22 2010 will have a unique opportunity to draw some of the objects on display as part of National Drawing Day.

Organised by the National Gallery Ireland, National Drawing Day is an opportunity for adults and young people to draw together in an informal and enjoyable way.

Margaret Edwards, Education Officer at the Tower Museum, explained the thinking behind National Drawing Day.

"National Drawing Day is a great way of getting people to engage with the exhibitions on show at the Tower Museum.

"Hopefully it will attract people to the museum and get them thinking about the city's history and heritage in a meaningful way," she said.

On the day, there will be artists present to offer advice and assistance, making Saturday a fantastic opportunity to come along and draw some of the objects on display.

Mayor, Cllr Paul Fleming, said National Drawing Day will be a fun and entertaining event.

He added: "National Drawing Day will be an informal and fun opportunity for people to come into the museum and draw some of the exhibits, and therefore engage with the city's history and heritage.

"With professionals there on the day to offer help and advice it will also be a great opportunity for all budding artists."

The Tower Museum opens 10 am – 5 pm and the drawing activities run from 1 pm to 5 pm.

Drawing materials will be available in the Tower Museum. For further details contact Niall McLaughlin - Tel 028 7137 2411. Email - [email protected].
