Entertain yourself at archaeology dig

As part of Archaeology Month 2013, Ruairí O’Baoill, archaeologist with the Centre for Archaeological Fieldwork, QUB and author of

“The Archaeology of Derry City and its Environs” will lead a tour of the city’s historic walls this Saturday, June 15, at 11am and 2pm.

The tour will depart from the Tower Museum, Union Hall Place and will last approximately 90 minutes. Tours are free, however must be pre-booked as spaces are limited.

The Legenderry Digs continue at Prehen house on Friday, June 14 from 2pm to 4pm. Organised by the Northern Ireland Envirnoment Agency and Queens University Belfast Centre for Archaeological Fieldwork in partnership Derry City Council’s Heritage & Museum Service this archaeological dig offers the opportunity to uncover more about the historic house in the 17th century and the early years of the Plantation.

The digs continue on the 21st June and on Saturday 22nd June a family day will take place where members of the public can come along and meet with some of the residents from the 17th century era.
