Causeway Coast and Glens councillor disappointed at lack of progress on drone display alternative to fireworks

A Causeway Coast and Glens councillors has expressed disappointment that Council’s Leisure team has failed to progress planned alternatives to Halloween fireworks displays.

Last November, TUV councillor Jonathan McAuley suggested Council consider using silent fireworks or drone shows during the Borough’s official Halloween events, after he was contacted by several constituents complaining that fireworks were causing distress to pets and livestock, children, and older people.

During September’s Environmental Services Committee meeting, Cllr McAuley said the issue was to be discussed at a subsequent Leisure and Development Committee meeting but he had not seen it on the agenda.

“I thought maybe back in November we’d be closer to having it ready for this year, but we’re nearly a year further along, and nearly at Halloween again, and we’re no further forward,” he said.

Director of Environmental Services, Aidan McPeake, said he would liaise with Leisure and Development staff to remind them.
