Giving prostate cancer the boot!

Frankie ‘Basher’ Moffatt is behind the fundraiser for Prostate Cancer UK, a charity that does vital reserach into the disease that affects one in eight men.

Frankie, who played for both Coleraine and Portstewart, was diagnosed with the disease himself seven years ago.

And through a series of fundraisers in the coming months, he’s hoping to highlight the the importance of early diagnosis and to raise much needed funds for the charity.

Calling on footballing friends from the past and the present, Frankie says there’s a great line up of stars for the game, which will take place at Portstewart FC on Sunday, May 5.

Frankie will be managing the Portstewart team which will feature players from the victorious Intermediate Cup team.

Names already on the team sheet include Aaron Forgrave, Jonny Law, Alan Vauls, Toasty Shaw, David Moffatt, Richard Stanfield, Kenny Woodrow, Mark Elder, Gary Taylor, Kenny Nicholl, Sticky Steele, Billy McVicker, Shaun Magowan, Emmet Boyle, James Andrews, Ian Todd and Mark Caughey.

Returning from England to pull on the sky blue shirt for the Ports will be Johnny McGinley, Ryan Butcher and Ian Clanachan.

Former keeper, Ernie Peacock will also make a cameo appearance on the day.

The Coleraine side will be managed by Victor Hunter and Ivan Murray.

The former Coleraine managers have David Platt, Ronnie McDowell, Billy McCurdy, Paul Gaston, Tony Hutton, Ricky Wade, Michael Guy, Jonny Crossen, Peter Hutton, Ronnie Burns, Alan ‘Bean’ Simpson, Rory Hamill and Trevor Porter on their team list.

Kick off for the game will be 3pm.

Admission is £5 with all proceeds going to Prostate Cancer UK.
