Half-Hanged returns to The Millennium Forum!

FOLLOWING the recent runaway sell out success of Stan McGowan’s hit play ‘The Wood of The Crows’, The Playhouse has announced that the sell out show will return to the local stage this summer at the Millennium Forum.

The play, which deals with the tragic events that led to the death of the young Prehen heiress Mary Ann Knox by the hand of her much older lover John MacNaghten in the year 1761, premiered to a packed audience in The Playhouse in November with standing ovations every night. Rave reviews followed the five night run, with the Derry Journal praising an “Incredible cast and equally fabulous set… Stan McGowan has done it again” they said.

And now audiences will get another chance to see the hugely successful play back on stage at The Millennium Forum on Thursday 17 and Friday 18 May.

Pauline Ross of The Playhouse said:  “We are just delighted to announce the return of ‘The Wood of The Crows’ The play’s fantastic success was a highlight of 2011 and we’re eager to see it back on a bigger stage! Only in the last few months we have taken productions to The Baby Grand in the Opera House (sell out), The Waterside Theatre, The Beech Hill Hotel, An Grianan Theatre to name but a few! We are so proud to have another great hit on our hands. Stan has written a superb play and with a fine cast of actors, including Bill Waters, Helen Mc Laughlin, Eamon Craig, Gregory Peck, Conor Barr, and Marie Dunne, with excellent costumes by Helen Quigley, stage design by Joe Connolly and stage manager Justyn McNicholl.

“Our recent productions have shown that there is a public demand for new works created from old stories, and boy do we have great stories to tell. We were not been surprised by the response to the production, and it will undoubtedly sell-out over its run at the Millennium Forum.”

‘Wood of the Crows’ Director and Playwright Stan McGowan said:  “I am really delighted with the public response to this wonderful story, which has so vividly engrained itself into the consciousness of the North West. This true story continues to grab the imaginations of each new generation, and to see this story brought to life is amazing.
