The cause of his death remains unclear, but Spanish police believe he died from natural causes and claim he showed no signs of injury.

Commenting on the investigation, PSNI Superintendent Kevin Geddes said: “Detectives from Serious Crime Branch are aware of the death of Alan Drennan in Ibiza and will be speaking with his family.

“We will gather any relevant evidence and speak to any potential witnesses to assist in the investigation being carried out by the Spanish police.”

On Wednesday evening (July 22), a large crowd gathered at Loughshore Park in Jordanstown for a vigil for the former Glengormley High School pupil.

Family members and friends released balloons and Chinese lanterns into the sky in his memory.
