LATEST: Officers taken to hospital after suspected burglars crash into police car in Moneymore

A 38 year old man has been arrested following a burglary at commercial premises in Moneymore in the early hours of Wednesday 28 October.

Just after 4am, police received a report that a burglary was taking place at a shop in the High Street area.

Two men are believed to have made off with some cigarettes and tobacco in a silver Rover MG car.

When police responded to the incident a short time later, they sighted the silver car which then collided with the police vehicle, injuring two officers.

The passenger of the silver car made off on foot but the driver, the 38 year old man, was arrested. Both he and the two officers were taken to hospital for treatment to their injuries which are not believed to be life threatening.

Detective Inspector William Tate said: “The man is currently in custody assisting police with their enquiries.

Police are also investigating a possible link to an attempted burglary at a convenience store in the Main Street area of Cullybackey that occurred at approximately 2.15am. A window was broken but nothing was taken in this incident.
