The chestnut coloured animal - named Ginger - was found by children abandoned and wandering the roads of Finvoy a fortnight ago.

The little pony is currently being cared for by local woman Claire Catherwood, a horse enthusiast and a fosterer for Crosskennan Lane Animal Sanctuary.

Crosskennan have kindly offered to pay to have Ginger gelded in the hope of finding the stallion a new home.

Claire said that Holly’s Horse Haven in Co. Cavan got very excited about the pony as it resembled one of their animals that had sadly been stolen in January and were keen to offer him a home.

However that interest has cooled and according to Claire the animal is “stuck in limbo”: “Crosskennan have kindly offered to pay to have him gelded - neutered - if they can raise some money to pay for the operation as funds are at an all time low,” Claire told the Times.

“He is being fostered here with me in Ballymoney until Monday morning, then going to Tullyraine vets in Banbridge the same day for his operation, to be paid for later by Crosskennan Lane. Then after this he is homeless basically - but Crosskennan may be able to give him a temporary home for a couple of weeks in Portadown or I could take him for a week if they are stuck.” You can donate here http://campaign.justgiving.com/charity/crosskennanlaneanimalsanctuary/gingersoperation or text GNGR50 followed by the amount (max £10) to 70070.
