Local man in running for Irish book prize

The Irish language book of the year awards take place in Dublin on Wednesday 13 and one candidate from this year’s shortlist is from Londonderry.

John McCloskey who works in the Nerve Centre has been working as an animator for more than twenty years and the book he illustrated, An Béal Bocht is one of the five books that have been shortlisted in the adult category.

The ‘Book of the Year’ is sponsored by Foras na Gaeilge and administered by Oireachtas na Gaeilge. There are ten shortlisted books in total, five in the adult and five in the children’s category and the two overall winners will be announced at next week’s ceremony.

Mr McCloskey says, “It is a privilege and honour to be shortlisted for this award. It was such an enjoyable project and there is definitely something satisfying about producing a published and printed book, as much of my work tends to exist solely in the digital domain.”
