Putting an appeal out on their Facebook site, they said: “We have had lots of Emergency calls this week on the 999 line.

“When our Operators have rang several back it has been no emergency and mostly iPhones being hit by accident in their owners bags/pockets, or children playing on mobiles.

“Just be careful with phones as this ties up our call lines for a real emergency. We do ring back to check these calls.”

Only use 999 in a real Emergency, 101 is our new number for non emergency calls.
