Loreto girls take part in ‘Day of Dance’

A group of Year 9 students from Loreto College took part in the Loreto Day of Dance, hosted by the Loreto Convent School, Letterkenny.

At the start of the year, the Loreto Education Trust appointed Elaine Dillon from Loreto College Crumlin to the position of Sports Network Development Project Leader for Loreto schools.

Loreto Trust and Elaine Dillon believing strongly that the strong sporting tradition and history of Loreto schools should be upheld and developed further, a meeting was held, for all teachers involved in PE in all Loreto schools in Ireland, with the aim of involving Loreto schools beyond the Dublin area in inter-school events and competitions.

Head of PE, Mrs Maureen McCullough, who attended the meeting, got involved in arranging some of the many activities to encourage participation by schools from all parts of Ireland. This included the Day of Dance hosted by Loreto Letterkenny, in which the Letterkenny, Coleraine and Crumlin schools participated.

The Day of Dance comprised two dance workshops followed by performances from each school.

The Loreto students performed a Cheer Pomm dance, which they had choreographed and rehearsed over many hours and weeks in advance of the event. The students who represented Loreto College Coleraine at the event were: Una Clarke, Alisha Convery, Sian Donaghy, Sorcha Duggan, Ellen Ferris, Eve Gardiner, Fionnuala Keane, Courtney McKeague, Kerry McLaughlin, Megan O’Kane, Yasmine Peacock, Klaudia Silakowska, Sylvia Smyth and Orla Wallace.
