Magherafelt pensioner left shaken after New Year’s eve petrol bomb attack in Leckagh

A woman in her 70s was left shaken after two petrol bombs were thrown at her bungalow in Magherafelt.

Police received a report that the petrol bombs were thrown at the Leckagh Walk property around 10.10pm on Wednesday.

The resident, who is in her 70s, was in the property at the time. She was not hurt during the incident.

The window and door of the bungalow sustained scorch damage. The woman was not hurt, but was left shaken.

Sergeant Bruce Rhymer said: “I would appeal to anyone who may have noticed any suspicious activity in the area or who has any information to contact Police at Magherafelt on the non-emergency number 101.

“Or, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.”

Mid Ulster MLA Sandra Overend took to Twitter to express her condemnation.

“Totally condemn petrol bomb attack in Leckagh last night. Anyone who noticed anything in the area pls contact the @PSNIMagherafelt,” she said.
