Man and woman arrested over shop thefts in Cookstown and Magherafelt

Police in Portadown have arrested a male and female in relation to a number of thefts from retail premises across the province including Magherafelt and Cookstown.

Police received a report last Thursday, of a sighting of a man and woman who had been involved in previous thefts from chemist shops.

A description of the pair were circulated and police received a further report of the pair running along a street.

Officers on patrol identified themselves to the man and woman who made off. Officers gave chase on foot and a 26 year old female was detained. She was arrested on suspicion of theft in relation to thefts in Magherafelt, Cookstown and Portadown.

Members of the public reported the male in Shillington Street and police arrested a 31 year old man in relation to theft, four outstanding bench warrants, a money warrant and breach of bail.

The female was interviewed and later released on bail pending further enquiries.

Theft and shoplifting can have a massive impact on high street retailers and we work closely with the business community to detect and deter this type of crime.
