Pleading guilty on his client’s behalf, Mr Blaine Nugent told the court that Love had been driving at an “inexcusable speed” and offered no reasonable excuse.

He said that Mr Love - a full time engineer - would suffer significant difficulties if he was to lose his licence as he faces a daily 20 mile round trip to work.

“He co-operated fully with police at the scene and no other road users were inconvenienced,” Mr Nugent told the court.

He also stated that his client had a clean licence but admitted that he had previously received points for speeding.

“This was an exceptionally high speed - 100mph plus,” said Deputy District Judge Anne Marshall.

“This sort of speed places this person in real peril of losing his licence.

“My concern is that he has been convicted of speeding before,” she added before handing down a £500 fine and six points.
