Mary’s and Dorman’s team up for Kilronan Special School

MAGHERAFELT bars Mary’s, Dorman’s and the Opera have teamed up to raise funds for Kilronan Special School, starting with a ‘Take Me Out’ event.

Last Thursday Mary’s held their version of the TV comedy dating game show hosted by Paddy McGuinness.

And Mary’s and Dorman’s staff will be joining forces again next on Bank Holiday Monday 7 May, to compete in the Belfast City Marathon and raise more money for the school. The team will be competing in the relay event over the marathon distance of 26 miles and 385 yards.

The team captain is Mary’s manager Thomas Doherty, he said: “We are all looking forward to the event and, hopefully, we’ll get good weather on the day.

“We’ve been doing a fair bit of running and gym work over the past few months and we will be going all out to support the Kilronan school, which has a vital role to play in our community.”

Mary’s Bar and Dorman’s and the Opera are owned by husband and wife Henry and Teresa McGlone.

Henry says: “I give the staff full credit for their efforts to help Kilronan and we plan to have more fundraising events for the school in the months ahead.

“Sponsorship money is still coming in for the marathon runners. We haven’t set a target, but we certainly want to raise as much as possible.”

Lisa Brown, vice-principal at Kilronan, said: “We are planning different projects that would greatly benefit our children and young people, including an adventure area and a sensory outdoor classroom.

“These projects cost a lot of money and we appreciate all the support we receive from the Magherafelt community and beyond.

“We are very grateful to the staff at Mary’s and Dorman’s – and we hope they quickly recover from their efforts on marathon day.”
