Mid-Ulster Eurospar staff sky-dive in aid of kids with cancer

The brave men, who have joined in with the tradition of raising money for the shop-group’s charity of choice, handed over a cheque for £2,175.

Added to the total now given to the Cancer Fund for Children through their stores in Maghera, Moneymore and Castledawson, an impressive £16.5k has so far been raised.

Gary McCullough and Padraig Donaghy were originally supposed to complete the jump in March, but bad weather had grounded them.

The adventurous duo were finally able to take the leap on August 4.

Speaking to the Mail, Gary McCullough said: “[NI Cancer Fund for Children] is the official Eurospar charity - anything we raise we give it to them.”

Although admitting he was nervous before the sky dive, he said that he would do it again.

“I was slightly [nervous] until I got up there, but I was grand after that,” he said. “It was good.”

As for the actual fundraising - he has credited customer generosity across all seven stores with helping them to raise the money.

“In store there was customers giving, we had posters up on what we were doing and when we were doing it, so it was just through store advertising,” he said. “It’s a very worthwhile cause.”

Sorcha Chipperfield from Cancer Fund for Children has praised Kelly’s Eurospar staff for their help since 2011.

“The Eurospars have been supporting the Cancer Fund for Children for the past three years, and the staff there have been unbelievable in terms of getting behind the charity,” she said.
