Mary’s took the title of Urban Pub of the Year 2015, while Friel’s was named Rural Pub of the Year, beating off competition from the nearby Ponderosa and three others.

The two local bars went up against libation suppliers from across Northern Ireland to claim their crowns, leaving only the City Pub of the Year title, which was taken home by Belfast bar the Sunflower.

Hosted by Pete Snodden, the event was attended by Enterprise Minister Jonathan Bell and DUP MLA Alastair Ross as well as hotel and bar bosses from across the region.

The champagne flowed as the 14 categories were announced at La Mon Hotel and Country Club in Comber.

A spokesperson for Hospitality Ulster, which hosts the awards, said Mid Ulster’s winners “did really well” to claim two of the top three awards from a record number of entries.
