Magherafelt Magistrates Court heard how, on December 27 last year, Declan Donnelly of Tullynagee Road got into an argument with his friend while at a bar in Magherafelt.

The prosecution told the court how police had reported seeing a young man up against the rear door of the bar who appeared to be in the company of a second male - and that the second male had become aggressive.

They went on to say that while police were questioning Donnelly’s friend, that he began to walk towards officers and when they requested that he stand back, he said: “That is my mate” and tried to push past.

The court heard how the defendant then told officers to “f**k off” and despite being warned that his behaviour was disorderly still tried to get to his friend while being verbally abusive to police.

The defence said Donnelly was embarrassed by his actions and felt responsible for his friend’s predicament.
