New road safety warnings secured for Townhill Road

Sinn Féin MLA Daithí McKay has welcomed the installation of warning signage at a narrow stretch of the Townhill Road between Rasharkin and Portglenone.

The signage was installed after local representative Leanne Peacock and he raised the need for road safety improvements with Transport NI.

He said: “The Townhill Road is the main road between Rasharkin and Portglenone and traffic can be quite fast in places. At the point just above the Tamlaght/ Townhill Road crossroads the road narrows at a dip in the road and there has been a number of near misses in recent times.

“Transport NI has now installed extra warning signage here at our request and this is to be welcomed.

“However the only solution to the road safety problem at this point is for structural work to be carried out to widen the road and make it safer for pedestrians who are most at risk if walking along the road at this point. We will continue to raise this with Transport NI as this is clearly a road safety priority for this area.”
