Northern Trust has highest number of people living with diabetes in N.I
The Northern Trust area has the highest number of people living with diabetes than any other trust area in Northern Ireland it has been revealed.
The shocking statistics which were released to UUP MLA Sandra Overend revealed that almost 21,000 people are living with diabetes in the Northern Health and Social Care Trust, the highest figure across any trust area in Northern Ireland.
Mrs Overend commented: “I was shocked to find out that the Northern Trust area has 2,500 more people living with Diabetes that our neighbours in the Belfast Trust area and almost 7,500 more than those in the Western Trust area. More than that, the figures are growing year on year. It is evident that this presents particular challenges for the health service. I have therefore called on the Health Minister to introduce a dedicated diabetes education programme in the Northern Trust area.”
