‘More people should avail of Neighbourhood Watch schemes’

I have been very encouraged to hear of more people in the Glengormley area availing of the excellent Neighbourhood Watch scheme, and this is happening with the help and guidance of our very efficient Neighbourhood Policing Team.

I am currently helping some residents from Burney’s Lane to start up such a scheme.

As a member of the Policing and Community Safety Partnership and a local councillor, I know that people are very concerned about burglaries and feeling unsafe in their own homes.

Years ago most people knew their neighbours and they looked out for each other. I think we need to get back to those old fashioned ideals.

Everyone has the right to feel safe in their home and have their personal property protected, and I feel one way to achieve that would be to form more Neighbourhood Watch schemes in local areas.

Anyone who is interested in establishing a Neighbourhood Watch scheme in their area should contact Mossley Mill and ask for the PCSP manager or contact their local Neighbourhood Policing Team.
