ABC Lord Mayor 'privileged' to announce chosen charities for the year ahead

The Lord Mayor of Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon, Councillor Mary O’Dowd said she feels “privileged” to support her two chosen charities for the year ahead.

Cllr O’Dowd has announced that throughout her term in office, she lead a range of fundraising activities in support of PIPS Hope and Support and Parkinson’s UK Armagh Support Group.

As well as raising much-needed funds for these important local organisations, Cllr O’Dowd hopes to highlight the work of the charities and raise awareness.

The announcement recognises the invaluable contribution both organisations make to communities across the borough.

Through its dedication to suicide prevention, crisis intervention and bereavement support, PIPS Hope and Support provides a lifeline to individuals and families during times of crisis. The Parkinson’s UK Armagh Support Group offers friendship, understanding and practical support to people living with Parkinson’s, as well as their families and carers.

Together, they deliver vital services that help local people navigate some of life’s most difficult challenges and ensure that support, connection and hope remain close to home.

Cllr O’Dowd said: “It is a real privilege to support two local charities that play such an important role in our borough and have such a profound effect on our residents’ lives.

"From promoting positive mental health and suicide prevention to providing care, friendship and advocacy for those living with Parkinson’s, these charities make a profound difference to the lives of people every day.

Representatives from the charities recently met with the Lord Mayor to discuss the impact of their work and explore opportunities to raise funds, increase awareness and strengthen the network of support available throughout the borough of Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon.

Seamus McCabe MBE, Chief Executive Officer at PIPS Hope and Support commented: “We are truly honoured to have been chosen as one of the Lord Mayor's chosen charities for the year ahead.
