Craigavon man handed prison sentence for stealing cigarettes from his mother
A Craigavon man has been sentenced to one month in prison after stealing a packet of cigarettes from his mother.
The defendant, who is currently in custody in Maghaberry Prison, appeared before Craigavon Magistrates Court via videolink, after pleading guilty to a charge of theft.
The court heard that on May 6, 2026 at 3.50am, police were called to an address in Craigavon by the mother of the defendant, who said she had become aware of an argument between her son and his father.
Her son, the defendant, Connor Hamill (28) whose address was given as Meadowbrook in Craigavon, asked her for money for cigarettes, which she refused.

He then left the property but returned later and took a packet of cigarettes from his mother’s handbag.
A defence lawyer told the court the defendant had “made full admission”, stating that he had been in custody since May 6, 2026.
Mr Rice sentenced the defendant to one month in prison.
