Carrickfergus: Proposed new garden facility to replace events marquee at Woodburn Orange Hall
Mid and East Antrim Borough Council is considering a planning application for a proposed garden shelter at an Orange hall at 50 Woodburn Road, Carrickfergus.
The application has been submitted by an agent on behalf of Woodburn Ebenezer LOL 787. The proposal is for a garden shelter to replace an events marquee in a communal garden adjacent to Woodburn Orange Hall.
A design and access statement submitted with the application explained: “The membership of Woodburn Orange Lodge wish to improve the facilities for social activities and propose to erect a garden shed facility to replace the use of an events marquee in the garden adjacent to the Woodburn Orange Hall.
“LOL 787 have been, for a number of years, extending cultural activities within the local community, extending an invitation to social picnics on key days where, weather permitting, refreshments can be served to members and friends alike.”

The statement noted that an events marquee has been “frequently used in the past”.
Key dates for use are July 12 and 13 for Orange celebrations; last Saturday in August; Easter Tuesday, King William III Landings Day and family days arranged by the Lodge.
The Royal Landing cultural pageant is centred around the commemoration and re-enactment of the landing of King William III, at Carrickfergus Harbour, in 1690.
“Most of these dates involve traditional celebrations on this site that are long-established,” it continued.
The design and access statement also said: “This in no way alters the use of the premises or creates any new activity, it merely creates a more suitable and friendly environment and allows for more advanced preparation.”
